The November 2018 Patch Tuesday rollout starts tomorrow

It’s that time of the month again, when many Windows users disable Windows Update and IT administrators just hope that Microsoft this time tested patches more thoroughly before making them public.

The November 2018 Patch Tuesday rollout kicks off tomorrow, and as it happens every month, cumulative updates for Windows 10 will be released as well.

Windows 10 cumulative updates are particularly important for users of Microsoft’s latest operating system version because they bring a system up-to-date by simply downloading and installing a single package. They include both security and non-security fixes, and come with all the fixes that have been released by the company in the past.

This month, Microsoft will ship updates for all Windows 10 versions launched so far, including for those who aren’t getting support anymore, though in this case the patches are only aimed at the Education and Enterprise SKUs. These two versions are part of the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC).

At this point, the Windows 10 versions that are supported for consumers (Windows 10 Home) are the Fall Creators Update and newer.

One particular highlight this month is a new potential cumulative update for Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809). This specific OS feature update was originally projected to become available for users worldwide in October, just like its name suggests.

And while it was indeed published on October 2, the update was pulled only a few days later after Microsoft discovered a critical bug that would have caused the removal of user files stored in libraries. Fixes have already been developed since then, but they were only shipped to insiders, with the public rollout still on hold.

It’s believed that the October 2018 Update could also go live tomorrow, and as a result, new cumulative updates with all the fixes that the company developed in the meantime may also be published for devices that already installed it in October.
