Visual Studio Code Gets Better MacOS Support, Multiline Search

My favourite Microsoft product right now — Visual Studio Code — received a major update today. The code editor today received the October 2018 update, or version 1.29, which brings better support for macOS, as well as some other features.

With macOS Mojave, Apple introduced a native dark mode on the OS. Although Visual Studio Code worked just fine with the new dark mode, it didn’t really work completely well with the mode enabled. With today’s update, all parts of the app — including things like menus, dialogs, and other UI elements — will now show a dark theme when the dark mode is enabled.

Microsoft is also introducing better support for full screen on macOS — you can now use a setting to prevent VS Code from using the native full-screen feature on macOS and creating a desktop space. Instead, it will enter the full-screen mode without creating a completely new space for the app itself, which could come in handy if you don’t like dedicating an entire space to the editor.

Another major feature in today’s update is support for multiline search, so you can now search for more than one line with regex expressions, and it works much like the editor. There are a couple of other new features on the editor, so make sure to check all of them out if you are a regular user of VS Code.

<p>"non-native" fullscreen (i.e. "normal" fullscreen) has always been available in the (non-obvious way) standard way by holding option-key while clicking the green button in the window title-bar. Great to have this setting though, the mac os way is annoying.</p>
