iOS 12.1.1 Public Beta 3: Autumnal Beta Edition

It's less than a week till Thanksgiving. It's only two weeks until Hanukkah. Christmas? You've only got a little over a month to prepare. Are you ready?

Now that I've thoroughly scared you (what the heck are you going to get Aunt Susie anyway?), it's time to go running back to the confines of the always (somewhat) predictable iOS 12.1.1 beta cycle.

What's New

Apple didn't include this in the release notes, but iPhone XR owners rejoice! You know how you're missing out on 3D Touch (one of the greatest iPhone X/XS/XS Plus features ever)? Now, you can press and hold a notification on the lock screen to pop open the same expanded options as you would with that feature on an X-model iPhone.

Facetime Live Photos (they drop into your Photos app as Live photos, even if you have that feature turned off) and Group FaceTime enhancements are the only other big news this release.

If you want to disable the Facetime Live Photos, you can do so in Settings > Facetime > Live Photos.

What’s Fixed

The VoiceOver bug, where you can't select a voice after upgrading to the iOS 12.1.1 beta, now has a workaround. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Speech > Voices where you can delete or download any voice. If it isn't fixed by the public release, this should be enough to keep people moving along until the next beta cycle.

What’s Next

With Apple working on a slightly skewed schedule, it’s anyone’s guess if we’ll see iOS 12.1.1 Public Beta 4 next week. It's a pretty safe bet that, at the earliest, Public Beta 4 could drop next Friday. But, Thanksgiving ensures that it's more likely we won't see anything until next weekend or the last week of November (Apple's going to be focused on that filthy Black Friday lucre).

But I’ve been wrong before! If I am, I’ll see you here next week. Otherwise, enjoy your turkey!
