In November last year, the second-generation Google Glass Enterprise Edition had made an appearance on the FCC website, giving us our first look at the upcoming smart glasses. The Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 appears to be getting closer to launch as it has now bagged NRRA certification in Korea. Unlike the FCC listing, the National Radio Research Agency (NRRA) certification does not reveal any new information regarding the smart glasses. However, the fact that the “GG2” has been certified in South Korea seems to suggest it could soon be made official. Just like the first generation model, the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 will only be available for businesses.

Earlier this month, we spotted the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 on the US FCC website, hinting at an imminent launch. The smart wearable has now made an appearance on the Geekbench benchmark database. While the first Google Glass Enterprise Edition was powered by an Intel Atom CPU, it looks like Google has switched to a Snapdragon chip for the second generation model.

Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 Appears on Geekbench

The Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 Geekbench listing suggests the device could be powered by a 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor under the hood. Going by the benchmark listing, the device will also include 3GB of RAM. As for the software, Geekbench reports the device as running on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.

Last year, Google announced that it had given up on the consumer version of the Google Glass and introduced a new version dubbed the Glass Enterprise Edition for businesses. Unlike the consumer version, which turned out to be a flop, the Enterprise model has seen decent success. Some of the current Google Glass customers include DHL, Volkswagen, Samsung, General Electric, and more. In order to better suit the needs of its clients, Google may soon launch the second-generation Google Glass Enterprise Edition. The device, bearing model number GG2 has been certified by the US FCC.

Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 Gets Certified by the FCC

The FCC listing does not tell us much about the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2’s hardware specifications and key features, although it does confirm that the new model will be largely identical to the first-generation Glass Enterprise Edition from the outside. With the Glass Enterprise Edition 2 gaining FCC certification, we can expect Google to formally announce the wearable very soon.

When Google introduced the Glass Enterprise Edition last year, it introduced a few notable upgrades such as longer battery life, faster Wi-Fi speeds, improved performance, an 8MP resolution camera, and more. While no details are available currently, it is likely that the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 comes with a few similar upgrades. Battery life is expected to be further improved compared to the Glass Enterprise Edition, along with a higher resolution camera module.

The Google Glass is a hands-free device that has been designed for hands-on workers. Google claims the Glass helps workers remain focused on high-value work as it removes distractions and they can activate the right application simply by saying ‘OK Glass’. Google Glass can be used by workers to access training videos, quality assurance checklists, and seek expertise from coworkers in an instant. Workers can even invite others to see what they are seeing through a live video stream, enabling them to collaborate with others and troubleshoot any problems in real-time. Without the Glass, workers would usually need to leave their workstation or use another device to access the required information. Thanks to these features, the Glass Enterprise Edition has become quite popular in manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics businesses.

For now, that’s all the information we have, we are expecting Google to make some revelations about it at any of its upcoming events.
