Our smartphone cameras have come a very long from back in the day, where some of them have higher megapixel counts than some compact cameras. They also come with smarter features compared to more traditional cameras, so it’s not surprising to see how more creators are turning to their smartphones to create amazing photos and movies.

More recently Apple’s CEO Tim Cook shared a photo on his Twitter page in which it is a photo that is being used as the cover for The Surfer’s Journal. This was an image shot on an iPhone which why it was shared by Cook, and was taken by photographer Zak Noyle and as you can see, the details captured are pretty amazing.

Speaking to Stab Magazine, the Journal’s Art Director, Jim Newitt said, “You’re always looking for those universal images; that speak to everyone. Those are the best ones. Something undeniable. In some ways we’re lucky, because of our publishing cycle [bi-monthly, working 2 issues out], we just can’t be timely. That liberates us from having to use the latest greatest shot.”

This is not the first time we’ve seen Apple’s iPhones used to shoot magazine covers. Last year we saw how several magazines published by Conde Nast were shot using an iPhone. A copy of The New Yorker from 2017 also featured a cover that was illustrated by the iPad Pro.
