Fortnite’s weekly update is out with a new seasonal event that gives players the opportunity to enjoy different game modes every day and to unlock festive rewards.

The version 7.10 release also addresses complaints about the X-4 Stormwing plane and delivers a number of big improvements — including support for 60 frames-per-second on the second-generation iPad Pro lineup.

Season seven has been a bit of a mixed bag for long-time Fortnite fans. While we appreciate the many changes made to the Battle Royale map, other introductions — like planes and the Infinity Blade — haven’t been so enjoyable.

But Epic Games has been listening to our complaints. The Infinity Blade has now been removed from Fortnite altogether, and a big change to planes in the 7.10 update makes them a little more bearable.

What’s new in Fortnite 7.10?

The new 14 Days of Fortnite event headlines the game’s latest update. It kicks off at 9 a.m. ET on December 19 and gives players the opportunity to enjoy new and returning limited-time game modes (LTMs) every day. It will also offer festive rewards.

Larger team LTMs will be switched up every two days, Epic explains, but small team modes will rotate every 24 hours. That means you’ll have fresh LTMs to enjoy with friends every single day over the holidays.

Additional dates have also been added for the Explorer Pop-Up Cups and Friday Night Fortnite, so if you haven’t had a chance to compete in a tournament yet, it’s a great time to start. Anyone can take part simply by heading to the Events tab in-game.

What’s changed in Fortnite 7.10?

The biggest change this week is to the X-4 Stormwing plane. It started being a little too advantageous, giving players the ability to quickly get around the map without suffering any consequences when they get shot down by opponents.

Thankfully, that’s no longer the case. Epic already made it so that players inside a plane would receive 25 damage if it explodes — now that has been doubled to 50 in version 7.10. This damage is taken from health, so it ignores any shield you have.

What’s more, the plane itself takes 50 percent more damage from hitting objects, so it won’t remain intact for as long if you fly into things. Boosting will reduce damage from impacts by 50 percent, but it won’t prevent damage entirely like it did before.

Epic has also tweaked the heavy assault rifle, which is now slightly more accurate when you aim down its sights, and slightly less accurate when shooting from the hip. Accuracy while jumping and falling has been reduced by a whopping 60 percent.

Other changes include improvements to picking up items dropped near a mounted turret, and various zip line fixes.

Performance enhancements

Like almost all Fortnite releases, this one also makes some performance enhancements. GPU tweaks should improve resolution and, in some cases, frame rate on consoles, Epic says. It’s also easier for mobile players to see buttons in snowy areas.

Players using a second-generation iPad Pro — both the 10.5- and 12.9-inch variants — can now play the game at 60 frames-per-second. This mode was previously available only on the latest iPad Pro and iPhone lineups.
