HP's new Elite PCs have all-new privacy displays that finally work on 4K variants

Among HP's CES announcements today are three devices from its Elite family of commercial products, including two PCs and a monitor. They all include HP's third-generation Sure View technology, which is definitely the highlight of these products.

Sure View is HP's privacy display. By pressing a key, users won't be able to see anything on your screen if looking from an angle. With Sure View Gen 3, the privacy display will look dark instead of bright, but more importantly, it will finally work with 4K UHD displays. Sadly, none of the Elite devices being announced today actually come in 4K, although this should make its way to existing premium models.

Today's announcements include the EliteBook x360 830 G5, the EliteOne 800 G5 23.8-inch All-in-One PC, and the EliteDisplay E243p 23.8-inch Sure View Monitor.

The EliteBook x360 830 G5 is meant to bring convertibles to the mainstream, as the 800 series is the mainstream lineup. The Sure View display offers 1000-nit brightness, and the PC comes with Intel's Whiskey Lake processors, up to 32GB RAM, and an option for gigabit 4G LTE.

The EliteOne 800 G5 promises micro-edge bezels, a built-in fingerprint reader, and a tilt-stand, similar in form to Microsoft's Surface Studio. It includes Intel Core processors, and there's an option for an AMD Radeon RX 560 GPU with 4GB GDDR5.

Finally, the EliteDisplay E243P is a 23.8-inch 1080p monitor, and it has a button on the bottom-left to toggle Sure View on and off. It also comes in an aluminum body with a micro-edge display.

The EliteDisplay E243P will be available in February for $379.99. The EliteBook x360 830 G5 will be available in March and the EliteOne 800 G5 is coming in June, and HP will announce pricing for those at a later date.

One other PC that HP announced, which is also aimed at businesses but not under the Elite brand, is the Chromebook x360 14 G1. This convertible packs up to a Whiskey Lake Core i7, 16GB RAM, and it has a 14-inch 1080p display. This device does not have a Sure View display, but it does have the Google Play Store, which can be managed by IT.
