How to Unlock More Precise Times in the iOS Calendar App

I’m always appreciative when a calendar app makes it a little easier to schedule events. And in a number of apps, you’ll find that the developer has assumed you’re going to be planning meetings, get-togethers, and other fun hangouts on the hour—or if not, at some time that either ends in a “5" or a “0.”

And that’s fine. I can’t recall the last time I needed a dinner or a trip to kick off at 6:37 instead of a more natural 6:30 or 6:45. However, if you’re still locked into Apple’s default Calendar app on iOS, you can bypass Apple’s restrictions and create events that start at any minute you want. It just takes a little know-how.

Open the Calendar app and pull up an existing event or create a new event. Your pick. Once you’ve confirmed (or entered in) the title and/or location, tap on the start or end time. You’ll see the little section expand that allows you to scroll up and down to set the date, hour, and minute (in five-minute increments), as well as AM or PM. Double-tap anywhere in this section, and the minute increments will change from five minutes to one minute. It’s that easy.

To switch back to five-minute increments, just double-tap anywhere in that section again. This trick only works in the regular ol’ Calendar app on iOS, by the way. I tried it on my personal favorite scheduling app, Google Calendar, but no dice.
