Windows 10 is Microsoft's computer operating system that typically receives substantial upgrades twice a year.

Last year such improvements arrived in April and October - it is assumed the American tech giant will follow a similar release schedule in 2019, too.

That means the next overhaul for Windows 10 could arrive in mere months.

Ahead of the software's debut, Microsoft has already started releasing Insider preview builds for Windows 10 version 19H1, the expected April 2019 update.

The Windows Insider Programme is a scheme fans can sign up to that grants early versions of the software for them to test.

However, such builds usually contains more bugs and issues than final release variants.

The Insider builds of Windows 10 are incredibly useful for garnering an early indiction as to what features are set to arrive in the next substantial update for the software.

The latest version, 18323, has just been released and brings a number of notable improvements for fans.

Microsoft has improved the software's light theme based on user feedback.

The settings icon in the taskbar is now a dark grey colour when the aesthetic has been switched on, rather than its previous black tone.

Moreover, the American tech firm has also fixed several issues related to the operating system's scrollbar and autoplay icon in addition to general bug fixes.

More importantly, Microsoft has now improved raw image format support for Windows 10.

This means files from cameras will now be natively supported by the software.

Explaining the addition, Microsoft said: "Do you like taking pictures in Raw image formats and wish that the Raw files from your camera were natively supported by Windows?

"Good news! Targeting 19H1, we’ve been working hard to release a new store-delivered Raw codec package that dramatically improves native raw file format support in Windows.

"By downloading the new Raw Image Extension (Beta) package from the store, you can now view image thumbnails, previews, and camera metadata of previously unsupported raw files right in File Explorer.

"You can also view your raw images – at full resolution – in apps such as Photos or any other Windows app that uses Windows Imaging Component framework to decode raw images."

The change to raw image files will surely be embraced by photography enthusiasts that are now able to view images at full resolution.

It is also worth noting the newest Insider preview build also introduces a swathe of bug fixes that have each been listed by Microsoft on its Windows blog.
