Surface Headphones Coming to Eight New Markets Next Month

Microsoft is announcing a big expansion for the availability of its Surface products today. The company is bringing the latest Surface devices — the Pro 6, Laptop 2, and Studio 2 — to 20 new markets today. And if that wasn’t enough, the company is also bringing its premium headphones to 8 new markets next month.

Microsoft’s $350 Surface Headphones, which first launched back in October and went on sale in November for customers in the United States, is coming to 8 new regions. These new 8 markets include Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, and Switzerland. The headphones launched in the United Kingdom shortly after being available in the United States, by the way.

The availability of the Surface Headphones should be welcome for customers in these 8 regions. The headphones have been received very well so far in terms of reviews, and it supposedly provides really good audio quality, going head-to-head with products like the Bose QuietComfort 35. Either way, here’s a recap of what the Surface Headphones provide:

Surface Headphones include a fairly unique feature: the ability to configure the level of noise cancellation up to 13 levels. Using the dial integrated into the headphone, you can control the noise cancellation levels in 13 different levels which is a really cool feature if I am being honest.

Microsoft’s Surface Headphones include other features like Type-C charging, Microsoft’s Swift Pair tech for quick pairing, up to 15 hours of battery life, Cortana integration, and 40 mm free-edge speaker drivers.

Microsoft isn’t saying exactly when the Surface Headphones will be available in these regions, and although pricing details for each of the new regions are available from their respective Microsoft Store sites, the availability date remains unknown.

I got to try these, and they offer a big step forward in noise cancellation. I have a pair of Bose NC headphones, and while they are super comfortable and have an OK sound, after a while, the noise-canceling effect itself can become uncomfortable, like an air pressure differential you can't yawn away (other than to take off the headphones).

These headphones offer the same level of NC, but notably, they also offer effectively the opposite–putting ambient room noise into the mix. It's brilliant–with a twist of the dial, you can clear that stuffy-head feeling you get from too much NC. You can also use it for safety (and other reasons) to hear the outside world while listening. Very slick.
