AMD Radeon VII has launched into the market and now AMD has rolled out BIOS with UEFI GOP for the newly released GPU. This AMD Radeon VII BIOS will not be exclusive to its reference models as it’s also available for AIB partners.
Furthermore, AMD Assured that a one-click installer will become available for users through its official website. While AMD has introduced UEFI BIOS for Radeon VII but, noted that it doesn’t expect gaming performance to be different from non-UEFI BIOS.
The reason why AMD has rolled out Radeon VII BIOS with UEFI GOP is that the initial batch of the GPU doesn’t have UEFI GOP BIOS. It all boils down to the user choice and the system the GPU owners are using.
However, this is not the only GPU coming from AMD. Recently, dataminers found hints for AMD Navi GPUs in macOS. Dataminer found a file that referencing AMD Navi 16, 12, 10 and 9, which probably are different variants of Navi GPU.
However, this datamine contradicts with a previous rumor that AMD Navi will be featured in PlayStation 5 and Navi will be exclusive to PlayStation 5.
Aside from GPUs, AMD is also in the business of manufacturing CPUs. With its Ryzen CPUs, AMD is giving Intel a run for its money and this year AMD will launch its Ryzen 3000 lineup.
The upcoming AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs will be based on the 7nm process node and were expected to be announced at CES 2019 in January. While we are still waiting for Ryzen 3000 CPUs, AMD announced its full line up of Ryzen 3000 Mobile CPUs, Athlon Mobile, A-Series Mobile for 2019.
Also, AMD has confirmed that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett will launch in 2020. According to AMD CEO, Lisa Su, the company expects significant growth in its APU segment from 2020 and onward.
Given that PS4, Xbox One their upgraded versions use the AMD APUs, it’s highly likely that next-gen console will also use AMD APUs. Using AMD APUs will be crucial and makes sense if both Microsoft and Sony intend to make their next-gen console backward compatible.
