Intel Cascade Lake Xeon CPUs Rumored For April Launch, Cascade Lake-X Set For Computex Debut
Intel is expected to launch a batch of Cascade Lake processors sometime this year, and likely sooner than later. How soon? Perhaps in just a matter of a few weeks, according to the latest leak, which has Cascade Lake pegged for an April launch. The leak also suggests we will see Cascade Lake-X processors unveiled at Computex, which runs from May 28 to June 1.
If those time frames turn out to be accurate, it is going to be an interesting first half of the year. Bear in mind that AMD also has new chips on the horizon (or is that horiZEN?), including new 7-nanometer Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs for desktops and high-end desktops (HEDTs).

The source of the leak is Twitter user Momomo, who is also a member of Chiphell. According to WCCFTech, Momomo has a "few successful leaks under his belt." In this instance, Momomo is pointing to LGA 3647 Cascade Lake and LGA 2066 Cascade Lake-X processors being right around the bend, which can get confusing when you start juggling different sockets and codenames. So, let's clarify.
Socket LGA 2066 is what many enthusiasts running Intel hardware are accustomed to. It replaced LGA-2011 and, on the desktop, is used for Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors, including the Core i9-9980XE, an 18-core/36-thread beast.
The less familiar (to general users) LGA 3674 socket is used for some Xeon and Skylake-EX/SP processors, such as the Xeon W-3175X, a monstrous 28-core/56-thread processor. If Intel comes out with a 48-core/96-thread processor, this is where it will slot into.
Assuming the leaked information is accurate, then Computex is where the real fun will begin. Sure, talking about high-end Xeon processors is fun, but it's the LGA 2066 processors that consumers/enthusiasts will be looking at. Those will also be the parts that will go up against AMD's upcoming Ryzen 3000 series.
