Latest Windows 10 April 2019 Insider Preview Brings Gaming And Installer Improvements

The release of Windows 10 19H1 (April 2019 Update) is just around the corner, but Microsoft is still working on a few tweaks. The software giant just released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18358 (19H1) to members of the Fast Ring. The preview build includes gaming improvements, installer updates, and Windows Defender Application Guard extensions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

The latest preview build addresses some issues that affected game streaming and recording quality. Unfortunately, various games that use anti-cheat software still trigger a GSOD bug for some gamers. Microsoft is currently working with a third-party company to resolve the issue.

Microsoft was also able to fix an issue that prevented some apps using Windows Installer from installing correctly. They were able to resolve an issue where upgrades failed and rolled back for some Insiders and another bug that left the contents of the Recycle Bin under Windows.old. It is important to note that some “Microsoft Store app updates do not automatically install on 18356+”. Users will need to manually check and install updates through the Microsoft Store app. Developers should also note that if they switch from the Fast Ring to the Slow Ring, some optional content will fail.

The Windows Defender Application Guard is now available as an extension for Chrome and Firefox as well. The extension depends upon a native application that communicates between a user’s browser and device. If a user navigates to an untrusted site, the user will be “redirected to an isolated Microsoft Edge session”. The user will then be able to navigate to any site without worrying about incurring damage.

Microsoft is still looking for Insiders to test out State of Decay. If you are interested in participating in the testing, you should go to the Xbox Insider hub and click on Insider content. Participants will be expected to provide feedback to Microsoft to further improve Xbox gaming experiences.

Microsoft releases two major Windows 10 updates each year. Members of the Windows Insider Program get to test out new Windows 10 features and updates before they are released to the general public. Windows 10 version 1903 or 19H1 will be available for most Windows 10 users this spring.
