2019 iPhones Will Reportedly Include Two-Way Wireless Charging, Larger Batteries

Apple’s next iPhones are expected to arrive sometime later this year, around September. The company just announced a bunch of new hardware and there is now some new rumors about its next hardware — specifically the 2019 iPhones.

According to MacRumors, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is reporting that the next iPhones will include a new two-way wireless charging feature. The feature would allow iPhone owners to charge their other devices simply by placing them on the back of the iPhone. The feature, also known as reverse wireless charging, is one of the highlight features of Samsung’s Galaxy S10 line, that allows users to wireless charge their other devices simply by placing their device on the back of a Galaxy S10.

Two-way wireless charging would also mean that your iPhone may need slightly bigger batteries. After all, giving someone or your other devices your own battery is going to affect your device’s battery life, so Apple could introduce larger batteries on the next iPhones to make-up for that. Specifically, Kuo states that Apple could bump up the battery capacity on the 6.5-inch Max model by 10-15%, 20-25% on the regular 5.8-inch OLED model, and 0-5% on the cheaper 6.1-inch LCD model.

Two-way wireless charging on the next iPhones would make a lot of sense. Apple just cancelled its much-awaited AirPower wireless charging mat, and if you are like me and spent $199 on the new AirPods with the wireless charging, that might be a little useless if you don’t have any other wireless charger. But with two-way wireless charging on the next iPhones, you will be able to charge your AirPods 2 and other devices wirelessly simply by placing it on the back of the devices.

This is still very early days in terms of iPhone rumors, so things are definitely going to change as we get closer to the official launch. It’s going to be one bumpy road, so buckle up.

I love the larger batteries in any case. I doubt I will use the 2 way charging. 2 users will comically press the phones back to back to send text messages or do selfies.

They just need to make sure that larger battery doesn't prevent them from making the next iPhone 0.2mm thinner. That is what really matters, after all.
