Vizio Updates Their iOS SmartCast App to Prep for Upcoming AirPlay 2 and HomeKit Support

Vizio has updated their SmartCast Mobile app for iOS to prepare for the rollout of AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to many of their Smart TV sets.

The new update prepares the app for use with the upcoming AirPlay 2 features. New firmware for the sets to allow the use of AirPlay and to add HomeKit support has not been made available as yet, but Vizio says it will be accessibly via the sets’ side menu at a later date.

Vizio’s “What’s New” notes for the app’s new feature are as follows:

Added setup flow to bring AirPlay 2 beta support to VIZIO SmartCast Displays and TVs. Flow to be accessible from the side menu at a later date.

Vizio announced in January that a large number of their Smart TVs from 2016 forward would be updated to add AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support.

In late January, Vizio announced signup for the beta testing program for the feature, which was expected to go public sometime in the first quarter of 2019. Vizio TV and iOS device owners can visit the page to click a link to sign up for access to the beta program.

Vizio is expected to rollout AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support sometime during the second quarter of this year.

The SmartCast app for iOS is available free, from the App Store. [GET IT HERE]
