Ikea and Sonos have been teasing a collaboration since late 2017, and it's now finally a reality.

The companies' line, dubbed Symfonisk, is a range of smart home devices that incorporate Sonos' Wi-Fi music-streaming technology and Ikea's design philosophy. The devices emphasize the combination of light and sound, which is literally the case with Symfonisk's centerpiece product, a table lamp and Wi-Fi speaker in one. The $179.99 Symfonisk Table Lamp With WiFi Speaker is pretty self-explanatory: a simple table lamp that features a wireless speaker built into the base.

The Symfonisk table lamp speaker, which looks like a very large earphone, borrows heavily from Ikea's design aesthetic; it sports a fabric-wrapped body and translucent plastic lampshade that completely covers the top.

"We knew from the start that we wanted to challenge the traditional high-tech aesthetics. The lamp-speaker partly springs from the idea of the fireplace, one single piece that spreads warm light as well as sound," designer Iina Vuorivirta said in a statement.

The Symfonisk line will also include a $99.99 Wi-Fi speaker without a lamp. The Symfonisk Book-Shelf With WiFi Speaker can be mounted to a wall with an included bracket and hold a small number of books. It can also be attached to a kitchen rail.

Both speakers will work with Sonos' wireless platform and connect to the Sonos app for a multi-room sound system. Like other Sonos speakers, they will also work directly with Apple's AirPlay 2 platform and the iHeartRadio and Spotify apps. The table lamp doesn't have any smart lighting features, but its standard E12/E14 socket is compatible with Ikea's own Tradfri smart bulbs.

The Symfonisk line isn't the first time Ikea has attempted to produce a series of wireless speakers. The company released the Eneby line of Bluetooth speakers last year, before announcing its collaboration with Sonos. The 12-inch Eneby impressed us with its power and value, and earned our Editors' Choice.
