Google's New Pixel 3a And 3a XL Smartphones Are Crashing For Some Users

Earlier this month Google launched its new mid-range Pixel 3a and 3a XL that went official after lots of leaks. Google was offering impressive trade deals to get users to upgrade with up to $600 off for the trade in of a high-end iPhone on the mid-range Google offerings. Reports are now coming in that the Pixel 3a and 3a XL are both having issues that are causing the phones to shutdown for some users.

Users seeing the issue are reporting that the shutdowns occur randomly during the day and night when the device isn't in use. When the devices shut down, the screen won't turn on, and the only way the devices can be used again is to do a hard reset by pressing and holding the power button for about 30 seconds. Reports indicate once that hard reset is complete, the devices work as expected until another random shutdown occurs.

To troubleshoot if an app is causing the issue, some have used the Pixel 3a devices in safe mode leaving only first party apps running, but reports indicate that the device still randomly shuts down in safe mode. There is some evidence that the issue might be Wi-Fi related as one user reports the shutdown happens only when connected to a home Wi-Fi network.

Some users have returned devices with the shutdown issue hoping that a new Pixel 3a device won't be affected. There are no reports at this time indicating if replacement devices have the shutdown issue as well. Google has made no comments on the shutdowns so far.

Google is currently facing a class action suit over a microphone issue with the original Pixel and Pixel XL devices that could see some users getting a $500 settlement.
