Who has seen the Apple Unicorn?
So, Apple's keynote invite looks like this.#unicorn
That's jolly interesting. pic.twitter.com/aJIm3ME9D8— jonny evans (@jonnyevans_cw) May 22, 2019
What Unicorn is Apple planning to introduce at WWDC 2019?
What it says on the can
Apple today began distributing invitations to its WWDC keynote speech – and what’s most striking about these invites is that they feature a unicorn within the image. (They also feature a fetching little rocket).
I guess it’s easy to imagine this imagery hints that the company is planning some kind of moon shot here – to introduce something which in other tech firms would be seen as a tech unicorn.
What might this be?
A new business strand?
A realisation of one of the many rumors (health, AR, car) currently circulating around the firm, or even just a unicorn that is a highly configurable Mac Pro (the eventual future of the platform).
We won’t know for a few days
Perhaps the WWDC app has some suggestions?
Not many.
In the main, the app lists the various sessions, talks and keynotes, interspersing these with the usual teaser titles to highlight tech sessions around technology the company hasn’t, you know, actually announced yet.

I quite like the “We’re keeping this one under lock 🔒and key 🔑” item, but this isn’t the only teaser you will find. I counted at least 64 sessions which remain to be announced during the keynote.
I suspect this is a statistic someone should track – how many unrevealed sessions were included in the app last year or the year before?
Transitions?
What do we know?
- We do know Apple will announce updates to macOS, tvOS, iOS and watchOS at the event, or at the very least announce some of what’s coming.
- We think Apple will introduce a new modular Mac Pro.
- We imagine the company will introduce developers to new technologies to support its huge services investment.
- We suspect the firm will talk about Apple Card, Apple Pay and its plans around security, privacy and identity.
- And we know the company will explain a little more around its vision for Marzipan, iOS and iOS apps on Macs – or the future of the Mac, or perhaps, it’s processor.
All the same, we don’t know yet what the unicorn in the invitation signifies.
And while I’ve a feeling this image is far from frivolous, this is a developer event, and Apple’s focus will be on explaining to developers how to use any introductions it does make constructively to build their vision and make a little money. All the same, I think something’s up.
I’m interested to see what Apple’s unicorn will be.
Has anyone out there seen it?
