We may see Microsoft's next-generation gaming consoles sooner than expected. The company's promotional materials for its upcoming E3 2019 briefing contain references to 'Scarlett', the company's codename for the next Xbox family.
Microsoft has been teasing the event for more than a week now and, thanks to the efforts of sharp-eyed netizens, we now know that the promos contained references to its next-gen hardware. Hidden in the background of a series of videos is the RGB code for the scarlet shade of red (255, 36, 0).
This is a clear reference to Scarlett (notice the extra t), which has widely been reported to be the internal codename for the new Xbox family. It will comprise of two consoles: a more powerful version, codenamed Anaconda, and a less powerful, Xbox One S-like model called Lockhart. There have also been some reports that one of the Xbox models will be focused on game streaming, and this would be in line with Phil Spencer's earlier announcement that the company would be taking a shot at Google's Stadia come E3.
The teasers do make it quite likely that we'll see an official reveal for one, or both, consoles on the stage at the Xbox E3 briefing. Alongside this, Microsoft is also expected to outline its plans for gaming on PCs, showcase the new Xbox Game Pass for PC and reveal a bunch of new games, including 14 first-party titles, such as Halo Infinite, Gears 5, Ninja Theory's new 4v4 fighting game, and possibly even a Fable sequel.
