The wait for Call of Duty: Mobile on iOS is almost over.

Activision’s newest title has quietly launched in Australia, where iPhone and iPad users can now get their hands on it for free. It shouldn’t be too long before the first true Call of Duty game for mobile goes global.

We’ve had CoD games on iOS in the past, but they’ve always been a big disappointment to fans of the franchise. They’re either watered-down versions of the series’ Zombies mode, or something entirely different.

CoD: Mobile is nothing like that. It delivers the first-person shooter experience fans know and love — along with iconic maps, modes, weapons, and more from previous CoD games.

This is Call of Duty done right on mobile devices.

Call of Duty: Mobile has it all

Many of the game modes that make CoD so popular are included in the mobile version, such as Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, Hardpoint, and Domination. And each will support between eight and 10 players.

The game will also include a battle royale mode. It’s not exactly the same as Blackout from Black Ops 4, but it’s pretty close, with support for up to 100 players and a massive map with plenty of dense areas to explore.

Many of the multiplayer maps will be familiar, too. There’s fan-favorites like Nuketown, Hijacked, and Firing Range — as well as classics like Standoff and Crash.

Made for mobile

Developer Tencent has made some optimizations for mobile, of course. There are different control options to choose from that should make a fast-paced shooter a little easier to handle with touch controls.

It’s not yet clear whether CoD: Mobile will support physical controllers at launch, but we’re certainly hoping for that. Being able to play with a PS4 or Xbox One controller in iOS 13 this fall would be terrific.

Out now in Australia

If you’ve been following CoD: Mobile news, all of this information will be familiar to you. What’s notable this week is that the game just hit the App Store for the first time in Australia.

That’s exciting news because it means CoD: Mobile is ready for fans to enjoy. It might not be available globally yet, but a wider rollout in other regions should be right around the corner now.

As soon as the game is available in the U.S. and Europe, we’ll be sure to update you. Until then, you can download it from the App Store if you have an Australian account.

Bear in mind that you’ll probably need a VPN as well if you’re playing in another country.
