AMD tends to undercut Intel on price, but the blue corner is looking to turn the tide with a series of price cuts for its 9th generation processors.

The AMD Ryzen 3 series has been causing quite the stir. Not only do they have impressive specs, but they have also been posting impressive benchmark scores online ahead of their release. According to industry observer DigiTimes, AMD's upcoming APUs have stirred Intel into action.

According to the Taiwanese website, sources inside the motherboard industry have received information that Intel plans to cut the prices of its 9th generation Core processors, a sign that the company is worried at the prospect of the Ryzen 9 3900X, Ryzen 7 3800X and Ryzen 5 3600X hitting the market.

In response, Intel is cutting the prices of its 9th generation Core SKUs by between 10 and 15%. So, expect to see between US$25 and US$75 shaved off the likes of the Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700K and Core i5-9600K in the coming months. These reductions may not sound like much, but they should make the 9th generation series look more competitive and may encourage third-party retailers to cut their CPU prices below MSRP. Speculative, but not an outlandish prospect.
