AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, Radeon RX 5700 & NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER GPU Benchmarks Leaked in Final Fantasy XV

Hassan Mujtaba

The latest benchmarks for AMD's Radeon RX 5700 series and NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER graphics cards have leaked out. The benchmarks have been spotted by TUM_APISAK in the FFXV (Final Fantasy XV) database which has previously listed many graphics cards with their respective performance prior to release.

AMD's Radeon RX 5700 Series And NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Graphics Card Benchmarks Leaked in FFXV

The benchmarks were performed in the Final Fantasy XV benchmark on 2560 x 1440 resolution at the high quality preset. Out of the three cards, the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT and NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER would be competing for head-on since they are priced close to one another. The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT would be available on retail for a price of $449 US when it hits shelves on 7th July while the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER would be available on retail for $499 US when it will hit shelves on 9th July.

I should make this clear that the Final Fantasy XV benchmark is more optimized for NVIDIA cards than the AMD Radeon lineup. There are many games out there which are optimized for a specific vendor, that could be AMD or NVIDIA, and this game is also one of those so I would suggest that you wait for final benchmarks.

Nevertheless, the scores, as pointed out, clearly favor the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER which is way ahead of the RDNA based counterparts. What is surprising is that the GeForce RTX 2070 is around 15% faster than the GeForce RTX 2070 (non-SUPER). This puts it right on par with the GTX 1080 Ti which was previously replaced by the $699 US RTX 2080. The RTX 2080 and GTX 1080 Ti offered similar performance for around the same price but with the RTX 2070 SUPER, you can get pretty much the same performance of a GTX 1080 Ti for $200 US less.

Moving on to the 7nm RDNA based Radeon RX 5700 series, the Radeon RX 5700 XT in this specific benchmark performs on par with the GTX 1070 Ti. The Radeon RX 5700, on the other hand, is about as fast as a GTX 1660 Ti for $379 US. This puts the Radeon RX 5700 XT at 10% faster than the 5700 which makes the vanilla non-XT variant sound like a pretty good deal for the $120 US lower price point.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition ($499 US) Specs:

In terms of specifications, the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER is everything that the rumors have told us. The GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER would be utilizing the Turing TU104-410 GPU with 2560 CUDA Cores, 184 TMUs, and 64 ROPs. It would also feature 320 Tensor Cores and 40 RT cores.

The clock speeds would be maintained at 1605 MHz base and 1770 MHz boost with the TGP (Total Graphics Power) being set at 215W. The chip will be accompanied with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory operating at 14Gbps along with a 256-bit wide bus interface, delivering a total bandwidth of 448 GB/s.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT Official Specifications

Starting with the specifications, the Radeon RX 5700 XT comes with 40 compute units in total and since AMD has already confirmed that the Compute unit design still features 64 stream processors, we will be getting 2560 stream processors in total. The AMD Navi GPU featured on the Radeon RX 5700 series comes with 160 Texture Mapping Units and 64 Raster Operation units.

The chip itself is clocked at 1605 MHz base clock but includes two additional clock speeds, a boost clock, and a game clock. The boost clock is rated at 1905 MHz while the game clock is rated at 1755 MHz. What I can make of the differences from these two is that the boost is the maximum speed the reference card would be able to hit, but the average clock speeds while gaming is the ‘game clock’ itself.

With the said boost clock, AMD expects a maximum of 9.75 TFLOPs of single-precision Compute from the Radeon RX 5700 XT. The card also features 8 GB of GDDR6 memory which runs across a 256-bit wide bus interface. AMD will be using the latest 14 Gbps memory dies which put them on par with the Turing TU104 cards that offer bandwidth of up to 448 GB/s. The card also features two 8 pin connectors and has a total board power or TBP of 225W. The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT will officially cost $449 US.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 Official Specifications

The second card is the Radeon RX 5700 based on the Navi Pro GPU. The reason we are not getting a Radeon RX 5700 Pro naming scheme is that it would be harder to differentiate that with AMD's own pro series cards which are aimed at content creators and workstation PCs.

This card has 2304 stream processors, 144 TMUs, 64 ROPs. The clocks are maintained at 1465 MHz base, 1725 MHz boost clock and 1625 MHz game clock. At peak boost clocks, the card will be able to deliver 7.95 TFLOPs of Compute performance. The card features an 8+6 pin connector config & has a rated TBP of 180W. The AMD Radeon RX 5700 would officially cost $379 US.

Now based on the TBP numbers, this card should be put against the RTX 2070 which is a 175W TBP graphics card. It will be interesting to compare both cards in terms of efficiency since the NVIDIA Turing cards are based on 12nm FinFET while AMD is using the latest 7nm process node.

In addition to the Final Fantasy XV benchmark, we also covered the first 3DMark Time Spy entry of the Radeon RX 5700 XT yesterday which showed similar results. The Radeon RX 5700 XT was a tad bit slower than the RTX 2070 Founders Edition so the SUPER variant should be a good bit ahead of the RDNA based offering. You can read more on that here.

Which upcoming graphics card lineup is more interesting when comparing performance, pricing, efficiency?
