Dr. Mario World is now just one week away from making its much-anticipated debut on iOS. If you weren’t already hyped for the game, perhaps a sneak peek at its crazy multiplayer mode will get you more excited.

Check it out in Nintendo’s latest trailer below.

The ability to compete against friends online adds a new level of excitement and competition to any game. The multiplayer mode in Dr. Mario World will feel familiar to anyone who’s ever played multiplayer Tetris.

That’s because the aim of the game is to eliminate opponents by sending them as many lines — or viruses — as possible.

Infect friends to win in Dr. Mario World

You’ll do that simply by playing as quickly as possible and wiping out as many of your own viruses as you can. The better your performance, the more viruses you’ll send out, and the harder it will be for opponents to remain in the game.

Dr. Mario World’s multiplayer mode also lets you keep track of friends’ stats and send them hearts when they need help. There’s just one rather disappointing downside.

To play online and against friends, you’ll need to link either a Facebook or LINE account. Nintendo has strangely decided not to include support for its own Nintendo Network ID, so if you don’t use social media, you’re out of luck.

Dr. Mario World lands July 10

But don’t let that put you off. Dr. Mario World looks like it’s going to be a whole lot of fun even if you’re playing solo. And you will be able to get your hands on it when it hits the App Store on July 10.

You can preorder the game on iOS today.
