Update: AMD To Defensively Lower Radeon RX 5700 Pricing Due To Killer GeForce RTX Super Performance
AMD has officially confirmed the updated pricing posted in our original article below.
However, the GeForce RTX 2060 Super and GeForce RTX 2070 Super launches have completely upset AMD's big Navi debut. The Super cards are offering anywhere from a 10 percent to 20 percent performance boost over their predecessors at competitive price points (read the HotHardware review here). In other words, AMD's value/performance proposition isn't looking as good right now.
So, what's AMD to do? According to a new report, AMD is lowering the price of entry across the board for its soon-to-be-released graphics cards to enhance their value to gamers. Here's the pricing that AMD officially announced last month for its first round of Navi consumer cards:
- Radeon RX 5700: $379
- Radeon RX 5700 XT: $449
- Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition $499
According to this latest reporting, AMD will lower the prices at launch to reflect the following:
- Radeon RX 5700: $349
- Radeon RX 5700 XT $399
- Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition: $449
For comparison, the GeForce RTX 2060 Super and GeForce RTX 2070 Super are priced at $399 and $499 respectively.
At this point, we don't have a wide range of third-party, confirmed gaming benchmark results from the Radeon RX 5700 family, but we should start seeing a wealth of data on July 7th (the official release date). However, if AMD is [allegedly] this willing to shuffle pricing, then the company must really be worried about Super.
