Do you still scoff at the idea of online dating? If you're looking for a relationship, you might want to get on board with it.

The Why Axis Bug A new survey from HighSpeedInternet.com reveals that more than half of Americans (55 percent) have had a serious relationship that began with a dating app. The most popular dating apps, according to the survey of 400 Americans, are Tinder, PlentyOfFish, OkCupid, Bumble, Christian Mingle, Zoosk, and Grindr.

"Millennials and Gen Xers are casually swiping on Tinder to find love, lust, validation, and even restaurant recommendations," HighSpeedInternet.com wrote in a blog post. "Gen Zers prefer PlentyOfFish with its expanded bios and advanced match filters. Though Tinder and PlentyOfFish came out on top, many surveyed online daters cast a wide net by using more than one service at a time."

Online dating isn't all roses, though. Three out of four survey respondents said they have had a bad experience with someone they met through a dating app.

"If someone is harassing you on a dating app, screenshot the evidence, block the person, and report them to the service," HighSpeedInternet.com advised. "Some forms of harassment—including threats, stalking, and obscene behavior—should also be reported to the police."

Another tip: Be on the lookout for cheaters. Twenty-seven percent of survey respondents admitted to using a dating app or website while in a relationship. Moreover, one-third said they don't even consider swiping on Tinder while in a relationship to be cheating.

Meanwhile, a separate HighSpeedInternet.com study earlier this year revealed that Alaska is the most dangerous state for online dating in 2019, followed by Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, and Nevada. All of those states have high rates of cybercrime, violent crime, and STDs.
