Steve ‘Woz’ Wozniak, famous for co-founding Apple with Steve Jobs, has become the co-founder of a blockchain company called EFFORCE based in Malta. According to the firm’s website, EFFORCE will allow contributors to invest in energy efficiency projects and earn profits based on energy savings that are generated.

Wozniak made the announcement at the pre-launch of the Delta Summit, explaining that energy efficiency was important to him and that he was keen to invest in Malta, claiming that the country has been “on [his] mind for decades” after seeing it on maps. He also praised the government for their interest in blockchain technology, while other governments have been wary of the applications of the technology.

Also on the panel at the event were Parliamentary Secretary Silvio Schembri and EFFORCE co-founder Jacobo Visetti. Schembri said that the country was very eager to improve the lives of those living in Malta and as a consequence, it has initiated various blockchain-based projects including ones to host academic qualifications and rental contracts on the blockchain. Popular exchanges, including Binance and OKCoin, have noticed the government’s enthusiasm too and currently work in the country.

Visetti also said that Malta was the right place for EFFORCE explaining that it “was the most open minded country we could find in the world in terms of new technology.”

Right now, EFFORCE is letting people subscribe by email to keep up with all the latest developments. According to Visetti, the firm will be launching a new website in the coming days along with a white paper that will provide more concrete details on the implementation.
