Dell reveals list of third-party software it will support

Dell Technologies has revealed the list of software it will support under its ProSupport Plus for Enterprise, sold on Dell EMC products.

CRN broke news that Dell would move into support for third-party software on 18 July and immediately requested a list of the supported products. That list was finally delivered to us yesterday, 29 July, with no reason offered for the delay.

The list arrived with an on-background comment to the effect that “We would like to emphasise that Dell Technologies’ strategy is absolutely not to take away some support revenue from its technology partners.”

After reading the list of supported software, CRN can suggest that even if Dell did want to compete with its partners it would be doing so on a very narrow front: the list below mentions just 31 products from a dozen vendors. Two of those vendors are Dell EMC itself and VMware. Five are operating system vendors, so don’t really impinge on many partners’ offerings.

Throw in the fact that the support is offered only for Dell Technologies’ highest-end services offering, aimed at the big end of town, and the prospect of Dell supporting software looks less-threatening still.

Even the vendors on Dell’s list probably don’t mind it stepping into support for their products: big customers often prefer one throat to choke, so Dell’s just meeting that desire while still enabling vendors to make a sale.

Here’s the full list for readers’ reference and/or interest.
