Spotify's Family Plan Will Give Parents More Control Soon

New parental controls will allow the Explicit Content Filter to be controlled for all other accounts on the Premium Family plan.

Spotify has announced plans to improve its Premium Family music streaming subscription this fall with the addition of new features and "long-requested" parental controls.

Spotify Family Mix

The Premium Family plan makes a lot of sense when you consider a standard Premium account costs $9.99 for one person and Family is $14.99 for up to six people who reside at the same address. But Spotify is improving the offer this fall for parents in particular. It's introducing control of the Explicit Content Filter for other accounts on the subscription, which means parents can stop kids from accessing inappropriate content on Spotify.

Other new features include Family Hub, which brings together all the settings for the account, including billing and those new parental controls, in one place. There's also Family Mix, which creates a personalized playlist for the whole family. It will be updated regularly, but also includes the option to limit who is included in a "session." So if parents are out, the mix could be limited to songs the kids like listening to, for example.

The updated Premium Family plan is already available in Ireland, but other markets must wait until the fall. Eventually, all Premium Family plan markets will be able to take advantage of the new features.

Spotify has been working hard to encourage more users to its service recently. In July a new "small, fast, and simplifed" Spotify Lite app was launched for older Android phones or those of us with small data plans. A Disney Music Hub was also launched the same month to make finding your favorite Disney songs as easy as possible.
