Apple’s new streaming TV service could cost the same as Apple Music, a new report claims.

Bloomberg says that Apple TV+ will be launching by November. It could launch with five shows and a $9.99 price tag. And, yes, like Apple Music there will probably be a free trial!

The initial slate of shows will include The Morning Show, Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories, See, with Jason Momoa, Truth Be Told with Octavia Spencer, and a documentary series on luxury houses called Home. Apple released its first full trailer for The Morning Show on Monday.

The new report says that Apple is considering different release strategies for its shows. It may offer the first three episodes, and then release new episodes weekly. That is more in line with Hulu than Netflix, the latter of which releases all episodes of a season together.

If true, Apple’s $9.99 price tag would put it slightly on the high end of streaming services. Netflix and Amazon Prime charge upward of $8.99. Disney’s Disney+ streaming service could meanwhile cost just $6.99.

Charging 10 bucks would put Apple’s service in line with Apple Music and its News+ offering. However, it’s also slightly ambitious given Apple’s limited library. While it’s working on plenty of other shows, its initial offering will be fairly bare bones. Apple’s streaming game service, Apple Arcade, will supposedly cost just $4.99 per month.

Apple TV+ will launch in 150 countries. It’s part of a plan to have Apple’s Services business hit $50 billion by 2020.

Splashing the cash

A separate report, from the Financial Times, says that Apple has committed to spending more than $6 billion on original content for Apple TV+. That’s a whole lot of cash. Still, it’s significantly less than the $14 billion Netflix is supposedly spending on movies and TV shows this year.
