A teenage boy is among two people suspected to have been among a gang of thieves who reduced children to tears when they burst into an Apple Store in a terrifying daylight attack.

Police today confirmed they had made two arrests over the frightening scenes at the Liverpool One store last month.

Six men - all wearing black clothing - struck at the popular store at 9.45am on Thursday, July 4.

The group are said to have charged in to the store shouting to one another before they began immediately pulling phones and iPads off the wires attached to counters and pushing customers out of the way as they made their way through the store.

Nobody was injured during the incident but children were reportedly left "scared and crying" as a result.

The men, who carried the iPhones out of the store in their arms, got away with 36 phones and a laptop.

Today police confirmed they had arrested two suspects, a boy 16, and man aged 23.

They have both been arrested on suspicion of theft and released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

A witness at the time said: "It all happened so quickly. They came in and barged people out the way and they were shouting in a different language at each other.

"They snatched the phones off the wires on the counters. Children were crying, they'll be having nightmares about that tonight.

"They'd obviously planned it all before they came in. Staff couldn't do anything to stop them because there was so many of them."

Issuing an appeal after the incident Chief Inspector Jay Crellin, from Merseyside Police said: “The men are believed to have made off in two separate directions, some towards John Lewis and some towards Costa Coffee (in the opposite direction).

“Someone must have seen these men running away from the scene and will most probably have heard the phones making a significant noise used to alert staff of a security issue so I am confident that witnesses will come forward, either members of the public or other staff members, to help us track down those responsible."

He added: "The men are all described as wearing black clothing, including black hats, jackets and trousers. One is described as having a black jacket with a white fur hood. Another was wearing a white Levi’s top and blue jeans, whilst a third was wearing orange/red trainers."
