Motion Twin’s celebrated game Dead Cells has finally landed on the App Store. In the process, it gives iPhone and iPad gamers the chance to play one of the most fun indie releases of recent times.
For the uninitiated, Dead Cells combines Castlevania-inspired side-scrolling action with some beautiful graphics and terrific gameplay. The results are an undisputed “must download.” Check out the trailer below.
In Dead Cells, you play the part of an anonymous prisoner who must escape from a constantly-changing magic prison. The formula that follows involves hacking, slashing, whipping, and firing your way through levels, climbing vines, and gradually leveling-up your character.
It’s macabre good fun, and while the pieces aren’t wholly original, it’s got plenty of original ideas along the way. It’s also rare to see a game which is quite so perfectly executed. As the trailer above shows, pretty much everyone gave Dead Cells a great review upon its release. Now it’s been ported over to iOS, where it’s also picked up a pleasing price discount down to just $7.99. That’s a one-off payment too, so you won’t be harassed for in-app purchases once you’ve bought it.
I haven’t yet had the opportunity to put the mobile version of Dead Cells through its paces. However, that’s exactly what I’ll be doing this weekend. If you want to check out the game for yourself, you can find it in the App Store here. It will work with any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 11 or above.
