Microsoft is rolling back its redesigned Xbox One Dashboard for Insiders

A month ago, Microsoft announced its redesigned Xbox One Dashboard, testing it with 50% of Insiders on the Preview Alpha ring. While many were expecting it to arrive in the 1910 feature update, it would seem that that's not the case, as the company is rolling back the feature this week. Announced on Reddit, the Xbox Insider Staff said that the new Home experience was an experiment, and that experiment is over, at least for now.

The new Dashboard removed the tabbed experience that we're all familiar with on the Xbox One family of consoles. Rather than toggling through different tabs for Home, movies, the Store, and so on, the tabs were replaced with buttons. This would make the Home screen faster to load, since the console doesn't have to load a whole bunch of content at launch.

With the experiment ending this week, those on the Preview Alpha ring are going to start seeing the old Dashboard again. According to Microsoft, "This is in preparation for additional testing to the Xbox One dashboard." It seems that there will be a new round of testing, so if you really loved the new Dashboard, keep an eye out for it.

It does seem clear that this won't arrive in the upcoming feature update for the console. Xbox One gets monthly feature updates though, so it could really arrive at any time.
