Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Fortnite’, ‘Terraria’, ‘Lineage 2: Revolution’, ‘Brawl Stars’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. The big news this week is the massive update to Terraria, but there are lots of other interesting updates to check out as well. And one or two boring ones! Life truly is like a box of chocolates. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

ANOTHER EDEN, Free Another Eden really does keep the content rolling in at a good pace. This latest update adds yet another new episode: IDA School Part 2. To get access to the new episode, you have to have finished Chapter 13 of the main story and, of course, IDA School Part 1. A new character named Claude comes with it, and Mighty (Another Style Hypnotist) is also available. Two encounters, Lone Encounter and 10 Allies Bundle, have been updated. The new episode also adds a new area, IDA City. Finally, there are the requisite bug fixes and other adjustments.

Special Tactics, Free Special Tactics is a pretty cool strategy game that deserves to be more popular than it seems to be. Well, that sort of thing happens. Anyway, there’s a new update here that will definitely make some people happy. The game now works on iPhone X family devices, which is a pretty big deal. The silenced rifles and shields have been adjusted for balance purposes, and newer devices now have character shadow rendering for that extra-slick look. This update also adds the new Beast Mode AK-47. It’s as good a time as any to check this out if you haven’t before.

Terraria, $4.99 Holy smokes, Terraria finally updated. And it looks like this new version is more or less matched up with the recently-released Switch port, which I hope bodes well for future updates. Online multiplayer is now a thing, allowing you to play with up to seven of your friends. The world sizes are now larger, and there are new bosses and enemies to battle. The endgame Celestial Invasion event and the Moon Lord final boss are finally in the game, and the Expert Mode has been implemented to give seasoned players a greater challenge. New items? How about over 800 of them? There’s a ton of new stuff to check out here. I’m going to go ahead and give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week as I doubt anything else today is going to top it.

Flappy Fighter, Free Flappy Fighter brings another brawler into the mix for a new fight. This time around, the hulking Cookie takes on the titular Flappy. Cookie reminds me a lot of the Juggernaut or perhaps Hulk from Capcom’s Marvel fighting games, and his fighting style is very different from what we’ve seen up until now. After he lands his super, you’ll wonder if there’s enough left of poor old Flappy to scrape off the ground. Update your game and fire it up to take this beefy bruiser out for a spin. Just, you know… watch out for fireballs, okay?

Lineage 2: Revolution, Free Lineage 2: Revolution received a major update this week that brings in some serious changes. The winged Kamael race has arrived to the game, and they’re packing some serious power. You can play as a Warrior, Rogue, or Mage Kamael, enjoying all the benefits that come from their unique capabilities. To go with the Kamael’s arrival, a Dual Class system has been added that allows you to choose an additional race and class without having to start over again. Rounding out the updates, some special perks and rewards have been added in. I’m sure they’re all very reasonably priced. Five stars.

Toon Blast, Free Blah, blah, it’s Toon Blast. Filling in the role of the obligatory F2P matching puzzle game update this time around with its usual 50 new levels and half-hearted narrative framing. The toons are… I don’t know, going to the beach or something? There’s definitely a summer theme going on here. Beach balls. Sunscreen. Sunglasses. All things I think of in September, I tell you what. Well, late though it may be, I suppose it’s something. That’s more than King bothers with these days.

Fortnite, Free Fortnite has another update, and it sounds like it actually has a couple of things worth paying attention to this time. A new Rift Zone is available, bringing with it new challenges for free Vault Hunter rewards. If you’re willing to spend a little, you can pick up the Psycho Bundle featuring Claptrap from the shop. Claptrap from Borderlands? Yes, the very same. It’s a bit of an unexpected collaboration, but hey, it works. Also check out the new Shield Bubble, which is almost exactly what it sounds like. And then there’s the Junk Rift, which allows you to drop freaking cars on top of your opponents. Yes, that’s pretty nifty.

Guns of Glory: Lost Island, Free Guns of Glory is celebrating its second anniversary. I actually made a mistake there and typed Funs of Glory, and that’s probably the closest anyone has gotten to pairing the word ‘fun’ with this game in quite a while. Ha, I kid. Or do I? Mysterious. This update has a bunch of events, rewards, and such to celebrate the two-year anniversary, along with new Light Gemstone, new paths for the Gemstone Expedition, a new event called Gemstone Gauntlet, and an extra builder being made available. Optimizations? Check. Balance adjustments? You bet. It has all those things that updates like this usually have. Get your shovels, friends.

Rise of Kingdoms, Free Seems like some big changes were added into the latest version of Rise of Kingdoms. There’s a new equipment system that allows commanders to use gear to improve their capabilities. You’ll need a blacksmith to forge, dismantle, and do other equipment-type things, so clear a little space for them. You’ll need to have a city hall level of at least 16, though. Live testing of the Osiris League is on, and if Ash Ketchum can’t win this one I’m officially not going to watch anymore. Feedback has been heard loud and clear about the Silk Road event, and it will appear in the future in reworked form. Add in some optimizations and tweaks, and that’s the lot.

Brawl Stars, Free It’s time for another update to Brawl Stars, and that means a new character has arrived. His name is 8-BIT. The update notes say that he “lumbers along like an arcade cabinet on two legs", which isn’t a horrifying image at all. Anyway, he can shoot Blaster Beams and his super move boost the damage of all of his allies, which isn’t necessarily something 8-bit in nature, but will certainly suffice. He’s available for free if you can get 6,000 trophies in the Trophy Road. This update also features new Brawler ranks, an adjustment to Season End Star Points, and a few other tweaks and improvements.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
