Activision’s Call of Duty: Mobile, an entry in the popular franchise, but built from the ground up for mobile, will be launching worldwide October 1.

The game soft-launched in Australia back in June. However, the rest of us have had to wait to try out the free-to-play title. To celebrate the impending launch, Activision has released a brand new trailer.

Call of Duty: Mobile is bringing the console experience to iOS

Call of Duty: Mobile comes with a lot of the game modes that have made CoD so popular. These include Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, Hardpoint, and Domination modes — each supporting 8-10 players.

The game will feature plenty of characters that will be well known to CoD players. These include character models of John “Soap” MacTavish and Simon “Ghost” Riley from Modern Warfare, and Alex Mason from Black Ops. To challenge the might of Fortnite, Call of Duty will also include a battle royale mode. This will support up to 100 players on a giant map.

Call of Duty: Mobile is a collaboration between Activision and the enormous Chinese entertainment company Tencent. Development on the game was carried out by Tencent’s in-house studio Timi.

While this is a freemium title (meaning in-app purchases), I’ve actually heard pretty good things about CoD: Mobile. Games like Fortnite have shown the right way to do free-to-play games. They should be entirely playable without in-app purchases, but offer them as added extras for those who want them. Hopefully CoD‘s title can get that same balance.
