The iPhone 11 lineup once again pushes the boundaries of what’s possible on mobile devices. That’s thanks to a brand-new A13 chip that combines the fastest CPU and GPU Apple has made for iPhone.
Recent benchmarks have indicated that iPhone 11 is king in these areas. Its scores beat out its biggest rivals with ease. It’s a different story for real-world performance, though.
iPhone 11 can’t keep up with Galaxy Note 10+
PhoneBuff put an iPhone 11 Pro Max to the test against Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Note 10+ and got some surprising results.
The test uses a robot to open a series of apps — the same on both devices — and perform a common task. Once the task is completed, the app is closed and another is opened.
The test is designed to simulate real-world multitasking performance. And it highlights a big different between the latest devices from Apple and Samsung.
Apple’s handset is fastest at loading up the apps and completing each task first time. But the Note 10 quickly pulls ahead in the second lap.
So, what happened there?
The A13 isn’t everything
iPhone 11’s ability to load apps fastest the first time highlights the terrific processing performance of the A13 Bionic. But again, processing power isn’t everything.
iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max have 4GB of RAM, whereas the Note 10+ has a whopping 12GB. That means Samsung’s device can hold more apps in the background once they’ve already loaded up, while the iPhone has to kill them off and load from scratch for a second time.
In actual everyday use, however, 4GB of RAM should be more than enough for the average iPhone user. It’s highly unlikely you’ll need to quickly switch between so many apps in a short space of time, and the iPhone 11 lineup is anything but a slouch.
