Microsoft is losing another one of its more prominent employees, after Mike Ybarra announced his departure yesterday. Today, Matt Salsamendi, who co-founded Beam (now Mixer), is leaving the company to pursue other projects.
Salsamendi announced his departure from Mixer on Twitter (via Windows Central), briefly explaining the story that led to the streaming service to where it is now. The service has been around for five years, nearly three of which have been under the ownership of Microsoft. The rebranding from Beam to Mixer happened in 2017.
The tweet also explains what Salsamendi plans to do next - working with lasers. The co-founder of Mixer explained his passion for lasers and using them to represent music. Specifically, Salsamendi said he has long been interested in working on lighting for electronic dance music (EDM) festivals and tours, and that he plans to fulfill that dream. Salsamendi's message doesn't go into more detail than that.
As for Mixer, the service has been growing over the past couple of years and months. Recently, Microsoft demonstrated its commitment to the platform by striking a deal with popular streamer Ninja, who now streams exclusively on Mixer.
