Apple said there's a way to wear the Apple Watch correctly. This involves using the right watch band and adjusting it properly. Here's how to change an Apple Watch band so that it can more effectively do its job.

The Apple Watch features a lot of components that allow it to do what it was designed to do. It has an accelerometer to monitor movement and fall detection, an array of sensors used to monitor various information such as heart rate, and so on.

These components need to be positioned correctly so they can produce accurate results. Wearing an Apple Watch loosely, for example, results in the rear-mounted optical heart sensor failing to use “ photoplethysmography ” (as per Apple Insider) to calculate the wearer's heart rate. The Apple Watch also needs to be worn at the top of the wrist to work properly.

Users are advised to wear the Apple Watch with just the right fit. Apple describes this fit as “not too tight, not too loose,” and with some room for the user's skin to breathe. It can be tightened during workouts at the gym, but should be loosened after that.

Changing watch bands

Sometimes, finding the right means having to experiment with available Watch bands. Here's a quick guide on how to change Watch bands:

  • First, get a piece of soft, abrasive- and lint-free cloth and place it on a flat surface like a table. This cloth will protect the Apple Watch from scratches and dings when placing it on a flat surface.
  • Second, place the Apple Watch face down on the cloth. Hold the longer half of the band with one hand, and press the corresponding band release button located at the back of the Watch.
  • Third, while pressing the band release button, slide the Watch band to any side. If the Watch band gets stuck while sliding, simply release the band release button, then press it again. The Watch should slide out easily now.
  • Fourth, get the desired Watch band replacement, align theWatch band with the Apple Watch's band connector, and slide it in. Users will feel a click once the Watch band is securely attached. Gently tug or pull on the Watch band to make sure that it stays in place.

Changing the shorter half of the Watch band is done using the same instructions. Users should keep in mind, however, to get the right band size for their Apple Watch. Bands for 38mm and 40mm Apple Watch models are interchangeable. Bands for the 42mm and 44mm models are also interchangeable.
