Xiaomi today showed off its new Mi Watch wearable — and, as predicted, it looks pretty much exactly like Apple Watch. Only it costs a whole lot less.

The device, which starts at $185, runs a skinned version of Google Wear OS. This is packaged into a form factor with the familiar rectangular display, digital crown and pill-shaped button of the Apple Watch.

In terms of tech spec, the Mi Watch reportedly boasts a 1.78-inch AMOLED display and 36-hour 570mAh battery. There’s also 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor.

In addition, users get NFC tech, Bluetooth, WiFi, eSim support, and a heart rate monitoring feature. Other health-tracking tech will include blood oxygen sensor, sleep and exercise tracking, “body energy monitoring” (whatever that is), and waterproofing for measuring your swims.

In other words, it sounds a pretty nifty wearable. Even if, as is Xiaomi’s tendency, its design is not wholly original. Unfortunately, it will only be available in China initially. The device will launch November 11.

Apple Watch rival not all Xiaomi showed off

In addition to the Mi Watch, Xiaomi additionally showed off the CC9 Pro smartphone today. This new smartphone boasts a whopping 108 megapixel camera. It also has 4x additional rear cameras. These include a 5-megapixel 5x telephoto, 12-megapixel 2x telephoto, 20-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens, and 2-megapixel macro camera.

Again, this will be limited to a China launch initially. However, a global launch could possibly follow at a later date. If this handset lives up to its hype, this could truly be a game-changer in smartphone photography. As much as Xiaomi’s designs can be derivative, it shows that the company has come a long way from its early days as an iPhone knockoff manufacturer.
