Again, we pit the 8-core 16-inch MacBook Pro 2.3GHz with 16GB of memory and a Pro 5500M GPU with 4G of GDDR6 memory against the 8-core 2.4GHz CPU with 32GB of memory and Pro 5500M GPU with 8GB of GDDR6 memory -- running Adobe apps and one game.

WHAT DID WE LEARN?

As reported in our first article featuring the 16-inch MacBook Pros, neither model experienced thermal down-throttling like we reported on the previous model. No matter what app we threw at them, they never dropped below the base frequency -- unless the processors were idle. When stressed, the temperatures rose and the fans kicked up, but the improved "fans and fins" did their job.

This follow-up article features four Adobe apps and one game. The 2.4GHz model exhibited an advantage ranging from 6% to 14%. With only a 4% CPU core frequency gain (and 4% Turbo Boost gain) over the 2.3GHz model, the faster times could be coming from the increase in main memory and GPU video memory.
