Adobe Outlines Roadmap for Photoshop on iPad

Adobe today published its product roadmap for Photoshop for iPad, which launched earlier this month with fewer features than expected.
Adobe tells me that its initial release was built to offer “a frictionless experience across devices,” and it focused on compositing and retouching workflows, acting as a companion app to the desktop. But today, the firm is revealing what it calls a steady cadence of features that will add new functionality and enhance the experience over time.

“We also built Photoshop on the iPad so you can open and edit your PSDs anytime, anywhere and see and edit your layered documents,” Adobe’s Pam Clark writes. “The app supports very large PSDs and thousands of layers, just like Photoshop on the desktop. In addition, your PSDs are automatically saved to all the devices where you have Photoshop through our new cloud documents functionality. Our goal is to give you a seamless experience, so you can create anywhere you have Photoshop, on the desktop or on the iPad.”
Since that first release, Adobe has added a few new features, including the ability to access the entire Adobe Fonts catalog from iPad. But it has more features planned for 2019, including Select Subject, which uses Adobe Sensei AI machine learning technology to automatically select the subject of an image and speed up complex selections; and cloud document performance improvements.
And in the first half of 2020, Adobe plans to add Refine Edge, which is one of the most important selection tools in Photoshop; Curves and Adjustment Layer options; Brush sensitivity and Rotate Canvas; and Lightroom integration.
