For the longest time, winter gloves had one job: Keep our hands warm. When smartphones came along, things got complicated for gloves.
Consumers demanded a fabric conductive enough for our gloved hands to work our touchscreens. Simple enough — except, of course, on really cold days, when fingers inside those typically thin touchscreen gloves felt like icicles.

The new double-insulated touchscreen gloves from Mujjo do both jobs equally well, keeping your hands warm while letting fingers tap and swipe away on your mobile devices.
Mujjo, a tech accessories company based in The Netherlands, has been a perennial all-star in the touchscreen glove market. It was one of the early companies with all fingers firing for touchscreen conductivity.
Mujjo double-insulated touchscreen gloves review
Last year around this time, I reviewed a pair of Mujjo touchscreen gloves that were surprisingly warm in the cold of my Minnesota hometown. There were, however, a few days of double-digit sub-zero weather after my review when the gloves by themselves could not withstand the cold that comes with the polar vortex.
I slipped mittens over them and took one off for whatever business I conducted on my iPhone outdoors. I was quick about it.
However, Mujjo’s new double-insulated gloves may be the only glove layer I wear on the coldest of days this winter. The morning after a review pair arrived, I took my dog for a walk in 6-degree temperatures. When I put them on before opening the door, I could feel these were a much better product. Outside, my hands stayed warm.

The next surprise was the conductive material woven into the fabric. Typical winter gloves won’t work on smartphone screens designed to respond to the touch of a finger. The human skin is conductive, and the fabric in special touchscreen gloves like these emulate that.
The fit on my review pair was right. However, there was a little room in the index fingertip. To swipe across my screen, I was able to use the excess fabric without any sort of pressure.
Mujjo’s managing director, Remy Nagelmaeker, says there is more conductive material in the reengineered gloves. Plus, it is more durable so it will last longer. Just how long will be interesting. I wore out the conductivity of past pairs, probably because of friction from the dog leash or working outside with a snow shovel or ice bully.
Back to that one job — keeping hands warm. The outer shell of Mujjo’s double-insulated touchscreen gloves consists of a heavy, wind-resistant Micro Pique. Beneath this stretchy material, Mujjo added two extra layers of insulation. These three layers make the gloves much warmer. They should prove up to the challenge of a Minnesota winter.
