Just three weeks after its release, the new 16-inch MacBook Pro already has a significant bug. Some users are reporting an issue with Apple's latest laptop in which the speakers produce a 'popping' sound after media playback, but the Cupertino-based company has identified what's going on and plans to fix it soon.

MacRumors obtained an internal document distributed by Apple revealing key details. Hardware isn't responsible here, which allows Apple to roll out a software update that silences the 'popping' sound. All parties in the Apple Authorized Service Provider program are advised to decline opening service tickets due to this issue. Instead, they're instructed to tell owners of the 16-inch MacBook Pro that a yet-to-be-completed software update will take care of the bug.

Unfortunately, Apple didn't inform its partners of an exact cause. Apple stopped short of a full description. The investigation into the issue will continue, and eventually users with the top-tier MacBook Pro will need to update macOS Catalina.

"When using Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, QuickTime Player, Music, Movies, or other applications to play audio, users may hear a pop come from the speakers after playback has ended," the notice reads. "Apple is investigating the issue. A fix is planned in future software updates. Do not set up service, or replace the user's computer, as this is a software-related issue."

Don't let the bug stop you from purchasing Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro. In the PCMag review, our Tom Brant praised its design including a spacious Retina display and overhauled keyboard. The 16-inch MacBook Pro also packs up to an Intel Core i9 processor and AMD Radeon Pro 5500M graphics. Maybe the 'popping' sound will bother you for a bit, but Apple will resolve that shortly.

The software update could arrive within the next few weeks; however, Apple's internal document does not offer a more specific timeline. Just be patient as Apple prepares a fix on affected 16-inch MacBook Pro units, and soon enough they'll stop releasing the 'popping' sound.
