When it comes to manufacturing the brand new, modular Mac Pro, there was a bit of a back-and-forth regarding location. Would it be in the United States? Would it be in China? It took some time to shake out, but the results are in.
And they are interesting! While Apple has resigned itself to manufacturing the new Mac Pro in the United States, it turns out that came with a bit of a caveat. Specifically, that the new Mac Pro is indeed manufactured in the U.S., but that appears to be for orders only in the U.S. International? Well, China gets the tap in that regard.
That’s based on a report from MacGeneration today, anyway. As you can see from the image at the top of this article, that is a Mac Pro — a new, modular model — that was manufactured in China, not the United States. In this case, this particular Mac Pro was delivered to a customer in Europe.
It’s not all that surprising: it had been speculated that this would be the case, as Apple’s manufacturing arm in the U.S. is not anywhere near as grandiose as it is internationally. But Apple made it a goal to manufacture at least some of the new Mac Pro in the United States, so reaching those order goals for only U.S.-based customers does make sense.
Of course, it’s not like Apple is expecting to sell a lot of Mac Pros. It’s expensive, after all. Still, this is confirmation that not all Mac Pro units are going to be manufactured in the United States.
