Rejecting the idea of flexible screens, an artist at Caviar dreamed up an iPhone concept with a detachable secondary display instead. This allows for real multitasking, or the handset to be snapped into a tablet or netbook.

Not stoping there, the artist created a concept video with multiple other innovative iPhone designs that might debut in next decade.

Watch it now:

Check out the “OverPhone” iPhone concept

Caviar points out that the completely separate display in its proposed “OverPhone” iPhone concept allows the user to watch video on one screen while doing something else on the other.

Or place the two screens side-by-side to make a tablet. And the secondary displays of several iPhones can even be joined to make a larger one. This iPhone concept also takes on the shape of a small laptop, with one screen angled above the first.

Judging the viability of concept designs is always a dicey business, but the OverPhone is based on technology that exists today.

Looking ahead through 2029

Not content to stop there, Caviar’s artist proposes a flexible iPhone that can be reshaped to fit the user’s needs. Like wrap around the user’s wrist to become a smart watch, or perhaps stretch into its own stand.

They also imagine an iOS handset covered in micro LEDs so the casing color can change at a whim.

And, in coming years, an iPhone display with tactile feedback might be possible. Apple recently received a patent on this type of haptic feedback tech.

However, the technology for none of these following proposals exists today, which is why Caviar thinks they might appear between now and 2029.

Dreaming up possible future iPhones is a hobby for many people. It’s a game Caviar has played before. Plus, just recently, an artist showed us what the first flexible iPhone might look like.
