The problem with the flash on our smartphone cameras is that due to their size and placement, it is sometimes not exactly ideal since it can result in very harsh photos, unless that was your intention. This is why many professional photographers use external flash units that can be angled away or softboxes that can diffuse the flash to make it less harsh and more even.

If you’re looking for a flash accessory for your iPhone, you might be in luck because Anker has unveiled the first MFi-certified iPhone LED flash accessory. We should point out that flash accessories for smartphones aren’t exactly new, but this would essentially be the first accessory to be certified by Apple under its MFi program, meaning that to a certain extent, it has Apple’s blessing.

The accessory connects to your iPhone using the lightning port and can be triggered using the default Camera app that is preloaded on your iPhone. Anker estimates that it should be good enough to be used for as many as 10,000 shots per charge and there will also be an optional diffuser to help spread the light source out.

Anker also claims that the flash is four times as bright compared to the default iPhone flash and can also achieve twice the range, so in theory, you could use it for portrait shots. It will be priced at $50 and is expected to be released next month.
