If you missed Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic, there’s some good news: The Oscar-nominated movie is coming to Netflix.

The movie, which came out in 2015, is an adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s bajillion copy-selling 2012 biography of Steve. It stars Michael Fassbender as the mercurial Apple co-founder and former CEO.

Steve Jobs received stellar reviews from critics. However, it was met with considerably less positivity when described by people who had known Steve. It also turned out to be one of the more surprising movie flops of 2015. It failed to rake in much cash and was quickly dumped from theaters.

Nonetheless, the movie did reasonably well at awards season. Both Fassbender and co-star Kate Winslet, who played marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, received Oscar noms. Neither of them won, however.

Steve Jobs on Netflix

Personally, I had mixed feelings about the movie. The performances are largely strong, even if Fassbender looks nothing like Steve Jobs. The movie also has an interesting premise. Rather than trying to squeeze in everything Jobs did in his life, it takes place behind-the-scenes at three famous Stevenotes events. These are the launch of the original Mac, the NeXT Computer, and the iMac G3. The action therefore takes place largely on one location, although letting Fassbender portray Jobs at three different ages.

My main issue with it are the constant inaccuracies in the movie. Sure, you’d expect some dramatic license for a biopic — but not necessarily one that twists timelines quite as much as is the case here. As I wrote at the time, “It’s a fun Aaron Sorkin movie — if you pretend it’s about a fictitious guy called ‘Steve Jobs. Try and reconcile it with the real guy it’s based on and it’ll leave you disappointed — or worse.”

Nonetheless, if you want to make up your own mind, you can soon do so on Netflix. Steve Jobs will arrive on Netflix (in the US, at least) on January 16. Or you could check out Pirates of Silicon Valley, which remains my favorite movie about Jobs.
