Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais roasts Tim Cook for Apple’s ‘sweatshops in China’
Tim Cook attended the 77th Golden Globe Awards on Sunday in Beverly Hills, California, in which Apple TV+ original “The Morning Show” received multiple nominations across a couple of categories, most significantly as a candidate for best TV series drama.
During the ceremony, which was hosted by English stand-up comedian Ricky Gervais, Tim Cook received a roasting for Apple’s ‘sweatshops in China’, with Gervais implying Cook, amongst the stars of the shows, “know nothing about the real-world,” and they should accept their awards and “fu*k off.”
Prior to the grilling, Gervais praised “The Morning Show” as “a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing.”, with Tim Cook seen smiling sat next to Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.
Apple rolled into the TV game with a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweatshops in China. So, you say you’re woke, but the companies you work for, unbelievable. Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service, you’d call your agent, wouldn’t you?
If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re not in a position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real-world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your god, and fu*k off.
Despite the nomination, The Morning Show lost out to “Succession” for best television series drama. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon were nominated for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama,” but lost to Olivia Colman from Netflix original “The Crown”.
