SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Blackmoor 2’, ‘Invisible Fist’, and Today’s Other New Releases, the Latest Sales Including ‘Hyper Light Drifter’, ‘Bloo Kid 2’, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for January 6th, 2020. I was hoping things would be back to normal today and, to an extent, they are. There’s still very little in the way of news to report, but we’ve got some new releases to look at and a healthy but manageable list of sales to check out. That’s enough for a Monday, I suppose. I thought about sneaking a review in here, but I accidentally spent my days off playing Link’s Awakening. Whoopsie-doodle! Let’s get to the good stuff.

New Releases

Blackmoor 2 ($9.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Mooff Games? On my Nintendo Switch? It’s more likely than you’d think! Yeah, Blackmoor 2 is now available on the Switch in a full premium version that packs in all the goodies from the mobile original and presumably a balance pass to make it all work out fine. Bash and battle your way through the story mode, play as a variety of heroes with their own stories, make your own dungeons, and dig into some online multiplayer modes for both co-op adventures and competitive fights. It’s just as good here as it is on mobile, and that’s pretty darned good. I’d recommend trying the free version on your mobile device first to see how well you like it, of course.

Ultimate Racing 2D ($9.99)

Most racing games these days opt for a behind-the-car or first-person view on the action, and it’s easy to see why given that it’s easier to relay the excitement of going fast from those angles. But I think there’s merit in the top-down style, and we don’t really see a lot of those in recent years. Well, here’s one. It has 35 different racing classes, more than 45 tracks, support for up to eight players in local multi, a handful of modes, and more. You can have up to 20 cars on the track at a time, which gets pretty hectic. It reminds me a bit of games like Super Off-Road and RC Pro-Am, and that’s good company to keep.

Invisible Fist ($9.99)

What a game to start the new year with, eh? Invisible Fist is a turn-based card game with a focus on resource management. You play as one of three characters and try to survive against the deadliest opponent of the modern age: late-stage capitalism. Do whatever you can to pay back your enormous student loans. Take a rest but do so knowing you could be making money instead. Lead a start-up offering a product/service of dubious legitimate value and try to make it rich off of fools who have too much money and don’t know any better. But most likely? Run out of money and die poor and destitute. All the while, a sports commentator makes sarcastic comments about the situations you find yourself in. I deem this one a bit too real to enjoy, but some of you will certainly get a kick out of it, I’m sure.

Sales

The sales seem to be settling back into the normal rhythm. The last of the big holiday discounts will be expiring over the next few days, so get what you need while you can. Meanwhile, the new sales are about what you’d expect out of a non-holiday period. The highlights, in my opinion, are Bloo Kid 2, Cattails, Hyper Light Drifter, and Goat Simulator. Everything else goes on sale relatively often, so if you need to keep some money in your pocket to recover from the last few weeks, I think you can delay a few purchases.

That’s all for today, friends. We’ll be back tomorrow with whatever news and new sales come along, and probably at least one review as I shake off the holiday grogginess. How are you all handling the back-to-work transition over the last week? Personally, I’m marking off the days until I go on my somewhat unexpected trip to Canada next week. I… probably should have saved Link’s Awakening for the plane? Oh well, I’ll find something to play, surely. At any rate, I hope you all have a great Monday, and as always, thanks for reading!
