Watching an iPhone battery being made might sound interesting. But Scotty Allen was left over the moon after his tour of the Pisen factories in China that makes after-market lithium polymer batteries.
Allen’s exuberance is routinely felt in videos for his YouTube channel Strange Parts. Each component of an electronic device brings the joy of discovery to Allen, known for having built an iPhone from scratch by shopping for parts in the components markets of Shenzhen, China.
His 28-minute video guiding his followers from start to finish was posted Monday and garnered more than 300,000 views within 24 hours.
You might wonder if you have the attention to watch a wonky video, but the machines and the robotics alone will keep you focused on seeing a battery go from raw materials to pretty packaging (there’s even a machine that brushes on the clear circular sticker to seal the end of the box).
Batteries go through a battery of tests like being splashed with saltwater and baked in an oven at a hot temperature just to make sure they don’t explode.
