The iPhone is due for a design change in 2020, having last received an overhaul with the iPhone X in 2017. However, you may be waiting a bit longer, if a new report from Mac Otakara is to be believed.
The online publication claims that the iPhone 12 could boast the same housing design as the iPhone 11. The only big changes would be the camera technology and overall size and thickness of the devices.
The Mac Otakara report claims that the new 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will be sized somewhere between the iPhone SE and iPhone 8. Meanwhile, the 6.1-inch version will be sized between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Finally, a monster 6.7-inch iPhone will be similar to the iPhone 11 Pro Max, but slightly taller. This tallest handset might also be 7.4mm thick, which shaves a substantial amount of thickness off the 8.1mm iPhone 11 Pro Max.
This report differs from a previous one by noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He previously predicted that the iPhone’s next refresh will bring a new design inspired by iPhone 4. He expects it to feature flat sides with sharper edges. This sounds similar to the squared-off edges of the 2018 iPad Pro.
Whether or not the 2020 iPhone design brings big changes, there’s still plenty to be excited about. Most of all, this will be the first 5G iPhone. It will also boast a new processor created with TSMC’s 5-nanometer technology.
